The son had been hunting at a different spot on the property and they had been communicating by text messages. When his father didn’t respond to one, he went to investigate, police said.
Paramedics took Siler to Christiana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said a preliminary autopsy showed the cause of death was trauma from the fall. Siler was not using a safety harness.
This was the second fatal hunting accident since bow season began Sept. 15 in Maryland. Joseph Kemper Jr., 55, of York, Pa., died Sept. 16 after falling from a tree stand in Harford County.
